Leonardo DRS in Bethel, CT is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to provide technical authority for complex power electronics systems. You will review customer specs, define system architectures, and develop comprehensive documentation and budgets for proposals.

The role emphasizes mitigating development risks, verifying performance via simulation and lab tests, and leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of detailed design experience in power applications.
• Experience with Navy/defense applications and market.
• Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink for electrical system simulations.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications and develop designs with cost as a key variable.
• Define architecture of power electronics, drives, and uninterruptible power supplies.
• Lead creation of system-level documentation and budget estimates for proposals.
• Verify performance through simulation, analysis, and laboratory testing.
• Generate RTMs ensuring end-to-end traceability to requirements.
• Provide technical leadership on large projects and mentor engineers.
• Support technical reviews to ensure rigor across the program.
