Leonardo DRS in Danbury, CT is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to provide technical authority for the design of complex power electronics systems. You will review customer specifications, define architectures for power electronics, drives, and UPS, and prepare design requirements and budgets for proposals.

The role leads cross‑disciplinary projects, mitigates risks, verifies performance via simulation and lab tests, and mentors engineers. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent; master's preferred.
• 10+ years of detailed design experience in power applications.
• Proficiency with Matlab and Simulink for system-level simulations.
• Model-based and real-time modeling of power electronic systems.
• Experience with Navy/defense applications is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications to develop designs with cost as a key variable.
• Define architecture of power electronics, drives, and UPS systems.
• Create system-level documentation and budgets for proposals; mitigate risks.
• Verify performance via simulation, analysis, and lab testing.
• Develop design requirements and RTM traceability to specs.
• Provide technical leadership and delegate tasks within an engineering team.
• Mentor engineers and support technical reviews.
