Job summary

The University of Vermont is seeking a Systems Engineer Manager to provide expert guidance, strategic planning, and leadership for building automation, energy management systems, and instrumentation across campus facilities.

The role leads a diverse team of engineers, controls and instrumentation technicians, commissioning professionals, and vendor staff to advance sustainability goals, safety, and exceptional customer experience while promoting social justice and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field and five years of experience in building controls systems management required.
• Demonstrated practical and supervisory experience in design, construction, or commissioning of HVAC/mechanical systems and controls; operations of controls and instrumentation systems.
• Knowledge of energy management/building automation systems is required.
• Knowledge of codes, regulations, standards, and practices.
• Utilization of computer systems used in project management.
• Interpretation of specifications and blueprints.
• Effective organizational, written and oral communication skills required.
• Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain and driver’s check required.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance, strategic planning, and management of building automation and energy management systems.
• Lead a team of engineering, controls, and instrumentation staff and contracted vendors.
• Plan for growth, reliability, efficiency, and sustainability initiatives across University buildings.
• Promote a safe work environment and embody inclusive practices in daily operations.
