Job summary

MANTECH seeks a Lead System Engineer in Laurel, MD, to oversee, modernize, and secure enterprise server infrastructure across on-premises and AWS environments. You will administer Linux and Windows Server, manage AD DNS GP, and implement automation with Salt, Bash, Python, and Ansible.

Responsibilities include maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines, IIS/AD CS/AD FS services, and Apache NiFi data flows, while ensuring IAVA remediation and security baselines across programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field with extensive systems administration or cloud engineering experience.
• Active DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE) or ability to obtain within 60 days.
• Hands-on Linux administration and Windows Server management experience.
• Extensive AWS cloud infrastructure experience, including hybrid environments.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting (Salt, Bash, Python, Ansible).
• Familiar with security baselines, IAVA remediation, and enterprise monitoring tools (Splunk, BigFix).

MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Lead System Engineer to join our team in Laurel, MD. The Lead System Engineer will oversee, maintain, and modernize enterprise server infrastructure across both on-premises and AWS cloud environments, delivering mission-critical administration, systems integration, automation, and security compliance to support program objectives.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

• Overseeing and maintaining enterprise server infrastructure operating across hybrid environments, including both on-premises hardware and AWS cloud environments.
• Administering, troubleshooting, and maintaining Linux (Amazon Linux 2023, RHEL 8/9) and Windows Server (2016/2022) operating systems alongside core directory and network services including Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy.
• Designing and executing automation scripts and infrastructure workflows utilizing Salt, BASH, Python, and Ansible to optimize system efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
• Ensuring continuous system security compliance through active IAVA remediation, vulnerability management, and alignment with enterprise security baselines.
• Providing expert-level technical resolution for complex, intertwined systems issues while collaborating effectively across cross-functional engineering teams.
• Supporting DevOps and enterprise service capabilities by maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines, Windows enterprise services (IIS, AD CS, AD FS), and Apache NiFi data flows.
• Managing concurrent priorities independently in a fast-paced mission environment while delivering clear, effective technical documentation and communication.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline with 14+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator or Cloud Engineer on programs of similar scope (or 19+ years of total systems engineering experience in lieu of a degree).
• Active DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE) or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of program start date.
• Demonstrated hands‑on expertise administering Linux operating systems
• Proven experience administering and supporting Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, or Group Policy management.
• Extensive technical experience managing, deploying, and supporting enterprise infrastructure within AWS cloud environments.
• Proficiency in infrastructure automation and scripting utilizing Salt, BASH, Python, or Ansible.
• Strong technical background executing IAVA remediation, applying security controls, and working with enterprise monitoring tools such as Splunk or HCL BigFix.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands‑on experience with AWS Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling, specifically AWS CloudFormation and AWS Packer.
• Experience configuring and managing GitLab and GitLab CI/CD automation pipelines.
• Familiarity with enterprise data flow architectures and pipeline integration utilizing Apache NiFi.
• Working knowledge of advanced Windows enterprise services, including IIS, Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS), and Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS).

Clearance Requirements

• An active TS/SCI with Polygraph

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
• Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Frequently communicates with co‑workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
