Job summary

MANTECH in Chantilly, VA seeks a Lead Systems Engineer to provide Tier III IT systems support for a DoD-oriented environment onsite. You will lead a team of engineers, author SOPs, and drive ITIL processes while maintaining AD, Exchange, SQL, DNS, and vSphere environments.

The role requires strong leadership, DoD-style certification readiness, and hands-on management of Windows servers, VMware, and security best practices. Occasional travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of IT or related experience.
• Demonstrated leadership experience including supervision of staff and accountability for team deliverables.
• DoD 8570 IAT Level III/8140 level expert Certification (Security+, CASP+, CISSP) preferred; DoD 8570 computing environment cert within 6 months (AZ-802, VCP, or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Provide Tier III IT Systems support on Microsoft Server, Exchange, SQL, IIS, DNS, AD, Group Policies, and related technologies.
• Diagnose and resolve performance, security, and interoperability challenges across platforms.
• Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for recurring tasks and improvements.
• Lead a team of Systems Engineers, providing direction and mentorship.
• Participate in ITIL Service Lifecycle processes, including Change Requests.
• Assist in requirements analysis and integration for listed platforms.
• Travel up to 10% as needed.
• Collaborate with other teams on production IT environments.

Job description

MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Lead Systems Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA. The position is onsite.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

• Providing Tier III IT Systems support on a wide range of technologies, including: Microsoft Server; Microsoft Server based Applications such as Exchange, SQL, IIS, Certificate Services, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, Group Policies; Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating Systems; Secure Printing technologies; VMware vCenter; and Horizon View
• Diagnosing and resolving the performance, security, and/or technical challenges related to the platforms listed above
• Writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to accomplish repetitive tasks
• Participating in processes throughout all phases of the ITIL Service Lifecycle, including submitting Change Requests
• Performing requirements analysis, requirements gathering, and integration for all platforms listed above
• Leading a team of experienced Systems Engineers and providing direction and guidance to less-experienced Systems Engineers
• Investigating and resolving operational problems in conjunction with other engineering teams and technical personnel
• Working on project teams responsible for engineering and packaging releases to integrate within the customer’s production IT environment
• Up to 10% local travel

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 9+years of IT or related experience
• Must possess demonstrated leadership experience, including supervision of staff, and accountability for team deliverables
• DoD 8570IAT Level III/8140 level expert Certificationrequired, ex., SecurityX, CASP+, CISSP
• DoD 8570 computing environment certification required within 6 months of hire, ex., AZ-802, VCP, or equivalent
• Experience with Microsoft Windows 2016/2019/2022/2025 Servers; Microsoft Windows 10; ad ministering Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, and workstation and server hardware; administering Microsoft Office 2010/2016; administering DNS, Group Policy, and PKI; administering vSphere or Horizon View, data backup, and antivirus software; basic networking including DHCP/TCPIP; experience with deploying workstation images; and experience with thin and/or zero clients
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Systems, HP SANs, or VMware products

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficient with Microsoft Windows systems, including DNS, Group Policy, Microsoft Exchange on-prem, and Microsoft SQL server
• Working knowledge of applying security best practices from DISA and/or vendors
• Basic systems infrastructure and hardware experience
• Basic networking experience
• Experience with deploying workstations and Thin/Zero clients
• Scripting experience or willingness to learn

Clearance Requirements

• Must have a current or active Top Secret clearance and be open to a polygraph

Physical Requirements

• The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations.
