Lead Survey Party Chief

Location: Houston, TX

Overview:

Join our partner firm at Kuo & Associates (KUO) as a Lead Survey Party Chief, where you'll play a key role in conducting various survey fieldwork, including establishing horizontal/vertical control, topographic surveying, property boundary surveys, and construction staking.

In this role, you will work both independently as a solo crew chief and as part of a team to ensure accurate survey operations. You may also assist with CAD work, such as basic survey drafting or calculations, and support project managers with field-related duties.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Operate survey equipment such as total stations, levels, GPS devices, 3D scanners, and data collectors, ensuring accurate data collection.
• Work independently following project directives and collaboratively within a team.
• Perform various surveys including ALTA/boundary, control, topography, and construction.
• Travel occasionally, including overnight stays.
• Engage with clients to understand project needs and maintain professional relationships.
• Adapt to changing environments with flexibility and problem-solving skills.
• Work outdoors in diverse weather and terrains, demonstrating physical endurance.
• Maintain organized, accurate records in line with operational standards.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Interpret deeds and construction plans to support survey activities.
• Show initiative and self-motivation, proactively addressing challenges.
• Maintain a clean driving record and prioritize safety.
• Identify, address, and resolve issues proactively within scope.

Skills and Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years in surveying, with at least 2 years as a crew chief.
• Skilled in GPS and robotic total stations; experience with LiDAR and Trimble is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills, detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of multitasking.
• Ability to interpret work orders, safety regulations, and manuals in English.
• Valid driver's license with a clean record required; LSIT certification is a plus but not mandatory.
