Job summary

Panthalassa in Portland, Oregon is seeking a Supplier Quality and Development Engineer to be the primary technical contact for suppliers producing Node hardware. You will work across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to resolve production issues and establish scalable processes.

You will support new product introduction from design through production readiness, conduct design-for-manufacturing reviews, select methods, evaluate suppliers, and apply APQP/PPAP and 8D.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, or related STEM field.
• 5+ years experience in supplier quality, supplier development, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 or similar standards.
• Experience applying APQP, PPAP, FAIR, and 8D.
• Experience with new product development and PPAP.
• Experience with stainless steel, carbon steel, or structural metals.
• Willingness to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical contact for suppliers producing Node hardware.
• Resolve supplier, manufacturing, and quality issues that affect schedules, cost, or performance.
• Lead supplier-quality and manufacturing-readiness activities for new product introduction.
• Evaluate manufacturing methods and supplier capabilities for formed, cut, machined, welded, and assembled components.
• Design-for-manufacturing reviews and recommendations to improve manufacturability and cost.
• Apply APQP principles during product and process development.
• Develop and manage Production Part Approval Process requirements.
• Review First Article Inspection Reports for conformance.
• Create specifications, inspection criteria, and QC documentation for the supply base.
• Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers with cross-functional teams.
• Conduct supplier audits against ISO standards.
• Analyze supplier data to identify recurring issues and improvements.
• Lead root-cause investigations using 8D.
• Issue and manage supplier corrective-action requests.
• Develop scalable supplier-quality processes across internal and external partners.
• Support PLM, ERP, MRP, MES systems usage.
• Travel to supplier locations up to 50%.
