Job summary

Halff Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced SUE Field Technician III for our Austin or San Antonio offices. The role requires a minimum of five years of SUE experience and offers career growth, professional development, and employee ownership.

The technician will locate, identify, and document subsurface utilities using GPR and other technologies, lead field crews, and provide accurate data to support engineering and surveying teams while prioritizing safety and quality.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of SUE utility locating and designating experience.
Proficiency with GPR, electromagnetic locating equipment, and vacuum excavation systems.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and utility records.
Familiarity with APWA color codes and ASCE 38-22 standards.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain GPR, locators, and other SUE equipment.
Lead a two-person utility designating crew or vacuum excavation crew.
Read and interpret utility plans, maps, and records.
Prepare field sketches, maps, and reports detailing utility locations and depths.
Coordinate with project managers, utility owners, and stakeholders.
Ensure safety policies and PPE compliance on all field activities.
Travel to project sites and work flexible hours including overtime as needed.
