Job summary

HDR is seeking a dynamic Substation Physical Engineering Team Leader to guide our Power Delivery group in North Carolina, based in Charlotte or Asheville. You will lead a substation engineering team, manage projects, and help shape HDR’s NC substation practice.

The role requires strong leadership, 7+ years in substation design, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Preference for NC-area experience and client-facing responsibilities within an engineering consulting firm.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7+ years of related experience in substations and power delivery.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Experience with project execution in the Power industry and client engagement.

Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a high-performing substation physical engineering team.
• Oversee technical execution, quality, timeliness, and budget compliance.
• Assist with proposals, technical writing, and project estimating.
• Identify growth areas and support strategic planning for the Substation group.
• Provide technical leadership and ongoing training to staff.
• Collaborate with Client Managers and other leaders to ensure integrated services.
