Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to drive the design of substation layouts from 12 kV to 500 kV, coordinating with internal teams and clients to deliver safe, reliable grid solutions.

You will apply grounding, AC/DC knowledge and advanced engineering tools to develop accurate layouts, perform QA/QC, and ensure project success across multiple sites. Travel to client locations as needed and support career growth within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 8+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Experience reading, designing, and reviewing substation drawings and layouts.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations.
• Self-starter with initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with engineering software/tools and QA/QC practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the delivery of substation physical design projects, ensuring technical excellence and on-time performance.
• Partner with internal engineering groups and external clients to understand needs and deliver solutions that meet standards.
• Perform QA/QC reviews on substation physical design packages for accuracy and constructability.
• Read, design, and review essential substation drawings including one-lines, three-lines, plans, grounding, and foundations.
• Create and verify bills of materials for substation components.
