Job summary

Southern Company Services, located in Forest Park, GA, seeks a Substation Physical Design Leader to guide design teams across substation projects, ensuring safety, quality, and timely delivery. The role interfaces with clients and internal teams to coordinate resources, develop talent, and drive standards across the Southern Company System.

The successful candidate will bring engineering credentials, PE preferred, and substantial experience in substation design/maintenance within a power utility

Qualifications

• BS degree in engineering or equivalent with applicable experience.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.
• Experience with design, maintenance, or operation of substations in the power utility environment.
• Demonstrated leadership and commitment to safety in the workplace.

Responsibilities

• Make safety our number one priority using a “Safety First” mentality and lead by example.
• Lead the activities of Physical Design group to ensure high productivity, quality, and efficient use of resources to meet schedules.
• Serve as the primary interface for opco clients, internal design teams, and partners.
• Select and develop top talent for the Physical Design team.
• Assign resources to projects, ensure design durations, and meet schedule commitments.
• Participate in or lead initiatives for Substation Engineering and Power Delivery.
• Support design standards and criteria for use on the Southern Company System.
• Provide leadership and guidance to employees in Physical Design.
• Develop a strong team environment within Substation Engineering and with partners.
