Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Engineering Manager/Team Lead to join our Power Delivery group in Colorado. You will lead technical teams, partner with a PM to manage scope, schedule and client expectations, and deliver high‑quality substation projects up to 500 kV across multiple locations.

Required is a BSEE, a PE license, and 10+ years’ design experience with high‑voltage substations; strong leadership, communication, and travel willingness are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer license.
• Ten years of experience in high‑voltage switchyard/substation design up to 500 kV.
• Experience with industry standards (IEEE/ANSI).
• Consulting firm experience preferred.
• Staff supervision experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience using industry‑standard design software.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, Webex, Teams).
• Excellent organization, problem‑solving and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a partnership with a Project Manager for scope, schedule and client management.
• Lead the technical team and execution of project deliverables.
• Create and implement a project execution plan for technical work.
• Assign tasks and provide guidance to team members.
• Support scope, schedule, budget, and risk management activities.
• Mentor, train, and supervise Project Engineers, EITs, or Drafters.
• Perform quality checks per HDR QMS and coordinate reviews.
• Lead multiple projects across locations.
