Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Structural (Buildings) Engineer in Arlington, VA to drive major portions of structural design for federal programs. You will lead analysis, coordinate with disciplines, and guide project teams toward compliant, efficient solutions.

The role offers autonomy and mentoring responsibilities, focusing on defense and public-sector clients while maintaining high standards of safety and quality across structures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 7+ years of post-education experience in building structures.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and design standards.
  • Experience leading portions of structural design work.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural analysis and design of new and existing buildings, including gravity and lateral systems, foundations, and structural components.
  • Develop and oversee structural drawings, calculations, reports, and design documentation.
  • Establish structural design concepts and coordinate with architectural, civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
  • Serve as the structural point of contact for assigned tasks and projects.
  • Review structural calculations, drawings, and codes for completeness and coordination.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring for junior staff.
  • Lead or support site visits and construction-phase services.
  • Plan discipline work and identify issues early to drive deliverables to completion.
