A well-established and growing precast and prestressed concrete manufacturer is seeking a Chief Structural Engineer to lead its commercial engineering team in Sumter, SC. With decades of experience in the industry, the organization has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality structural concrete solutions for complex commercial and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the structural engineering and design efforts for commercial precast and prestressed concrete projects.
- Design precast concrete systems, components, connections, and associated structural details.
- Perform engineering calculations and develop details for precast products and connections.
- Independently manage the engineering design aspects of multiple projects from design through completion.
- Review and approve design and erection drawings for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
- Supervise and support a team of four drafters, helping coordinate workloads and ensure successful project completion.
- Review contract documents, plans, and specifications to understand project requirements and identify potential design considerations.
- Attend project meetings and, when appropriate, lead engineering and coordination meetings with internal and external project stakeholders.
- Review engineering calculations and designs prepared by others for accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Review and stamp erection drawings, structural calculations, repair details, and other engineering documents as required.
- Monitor engineering design costs against project estimates and take appropriate action when necessary.
- Coordinate with production, project management, erection, and other internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Perform field observations and represent the engineering department on project sites when required.
- Help maintain the organization's commitment to quality and industry standards while identifying opportunities to improve engineering processes and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis, or a closely related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required.
- Licensed in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, or willing and able to obtain the necessary licenses.
- 5+ years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Experience with precast or prestressed concrete is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or leading engineers and/or drafters is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of structural design principles, engineering calculations, connections, and construction documents.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining project schedules.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, drafting, production, and project teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
