LJB Inc. in Kernersville, North Carolina is seeking an experienced Structural Bridge Engineer to support and grow our Transportation Practice. This role focuses on structural analysis, design, and plan production for diverse bridge projects across the region.

Join a seasoned civil/structural team to lead projects, mentor engineers, and ensure quality across locations. A PE is preferred and 5–10 years of bridge experience is expected, with DOT design familiarity guiding our workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Civil Engineering required, structural emphasis preferred.
• PE license is a plus; able to obtain within 1 year of hire.
• 5-10 years of hands-on bridge/culvert design experience; full lifecycle of bridge projects.
• Direct experience with DOT bridge design and understanding of DOT design guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation.
• In-depth knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and the Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
• Established relationships with state DOTs and municipalities (preferred).
• Experience with CAD plan development, MicroStation/ORD (preferred).
• Strong project management skills and ability to mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on structural analysis and design of bridges (steel beams, prestressed concrete, etc.).
• Lead bridge projects as Bridge Task Coordinator, managing schedules and deliverables.
• Provide design and plan production support across office locations.
• Mentor junior engineers and oversee quality control for bridge design sets.
• Develop technical memorandums, specifications, evaluations, and reports.
