Job summary

FirstLine Schools is seeking a Special Education Lead Teacher to implement curriculum for students with IEPs and collaborate with a network of educators. The role requires SPED certification (or progress toward it) and prior lead teaching in an urban setting.

The position reports to the School Principal/Assistant Principal and is a full-time, on-site role in New Orleans. The school emphasizes excellence in teaching and student achievement.

Qualifications

• Must be certified in Louisiana SPED or eligible for certification.
• 2+ years of lead teaching (teacher of record) in an urban setting.
• Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) required.

Responsibilities

• Designs lessons lead to standards mastery aligned to grade level expectations and end-of-year assessments for students with disabilities.
• Provides feedback to scholars through scaffolded questions to affirm understanding and extend thinking.
• Establishes effective classroom routines and manages students without disruptions.
• Inspires students to achieve goals through effort and fosters belief in progress.
• Prepares scholars to solve complex problems with no obvious answer.
• Seeks feedback and engages others in problem-solving.
• Provides IEP minutes and ensures documentation.
• Facilitates IEP development, FBA/BIPs, transition planning, and maintains supporting documentation.

Skills

Strong written and verbalcommunication

Education

BA or BS

Louisiana SPED Certification (completed or in progress)

2+ years of lead teaching (teacher of record)

Experience in urban, open admissions school
