Job summary

Portal Space Systems, based in Bothell, WA, seeks a Structural Analysis Engineer to substantiate spacecraft primary and secondary structures using FEM and first-principles calculations. You will work closely with design, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure structural integrity throughout development.

Responsibilities include developing verification approaches, running stress analyses, and documenting verification artifacts while automating workflows with Python.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with spacecraft structural analysis and substantiation.
• Experience using FEM and hand calculations for stress, buckling, margin of safety.

Responsibilities

• Own FEM model for primary and secondary spacecraft structures.
• Perform stress, deflection, stability, and margin of safety analyses.
• Substantiate metallic and composite structures (strength, stiffness, buckling).
• Develop and document structural verification approaches and rationale.
• Support design trades and architecture decisions via analytical load-path assessments.
• Collaborate with design engineers to optimize structural designs.
