Job summary

K2 Space seeks a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to shape how satellite mechanisms are built for high-rate production. You will partner with Mechanisms Engineering to design the first prototype, define build flow and fixturing, and shepherd electromechanical assemblies from concept through production.

In six months you’ll build test articles, provide DFx guidance, and help scale manufacturing policies and tools across programs, ensuring manufacturability and quality at pace.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering or related field.
• Experience in high-volume, rapid production environments.
• Knowledge of NASA-STD-5017, AIAA S-114 and related environmental standards.
• Ability to set up first-article production and scale to high-rate production.
• Experience with mechanisms such as actuators, gimbals, and reaction wheels.

Responsibilities

• Lead DFX reviews and provide manufacturability guidance across mechanisms and tooling.
• Develop manufacturing systems for spacecraft mechanisms and production flow.
• Set policies, standards, and best practices for the Manufacturing Engineering org.
• Plan tooling, capacity, and production strategy for future designs.
• Pilot new assembly methods and automation Technologies using data-driven analysis.
• Create custom tools and MES software to streamline the ME team work.
• Demonstrate advanced manufacturing techniques on prototypes.
• Build test articles and support qualification campaigns.
• Iterate subassembly build flow to align with takt times.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with design peers.
• Lead R&D of novel manufacturing technologies with cross-functional teams.
