Job summary

K2 Space is hiring a Principal Mechanisms Manufacturing Engineer to scale high‑power satellite mechanisms production. You will lead DFX reviews, develop manufacturing systems for rotational actuators, gimbals, and reaction wheel assemblies, and set policies to drive manufacturability across flight hardware and tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or other relevant engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in a high volume, rapid production environment in a manufacturing, integration, and/or design engineering role.
• Demonstrated track record of leading product development and/or process improvement initiatives.
• Familiarity with NASA-STD-5017 and AIAA S-114, and related environmental qualification standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead DFX reviews with the Mechanisms Engineering team to guide manufacturability and assembly for initial design and flight hardware.
• Develop manufacturing systems for spacecraft mechanisms including rotational actuators and gimbals.
• Set manufacturing policy, standards, and best practices to mitigate risks across programs.
• Plan strategy, tooling, and capacity investments for future mechanism designs.
• Research and pilot new assembly methodologies and automation for production optimization.
• Create custom tools, automation, and MES software to support the ME team.
• Demonstrate advanced manufacturing techniques on prototypes and iterate designs.
• Build test articles and support development and qualification test campaigns.
• Develop subassembly build flow and align with takt times for production.
• Mentor junior manufacturing engineers and design peers on best practices.
