Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Responsible Engineer to lead the development of solar panels for spacecraft within the Lunar Permanence unit. You will guide the full product life cycle from concepts to flight-ready hardware, collaborating with Power Generation & Energy Storage and vehicle teams to integrate solar panels with subsystems.

You will influence design reviews, DFx, and test programs, communicating risks and status to leadership. A hands-on, fast-paced contributor is essential in this role.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, Physics, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in solar panel development; 3+ years in space applications desired.
  • Experience across full product lifecycle: concept to release.
  • Design, specify, procure, and test space-grade panels and adhesives.
  • Familiarity with PV cells and solar panel testing methods (e.g., AIAA S-112).
  • Knowledge of space environment effects on solar panels.
  • Strong teamwork and communication; ability to earn trust.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver space-qualified solar panel and backing structure flight hardware.
  • Serve as technical lead coordinating cross-disciplinary engineers.
  • Drive new product development from requirements to production readiness.
  • Lead design reviews and support DFx.
  • Communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.
  • Analyze and report KPIs contextualized to vehicle requirements.
  • Support component-level testing and vehicle-level integration tests.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and other teams.
