Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Manufacturing Process Development Engineer to own the development and qualification of solar panel module fabrication processes, from cell stringing to lamination and testing. You will lead equipment selection and commissioning, drive value-stream improvements, and develop PFMEA and control plans in a spaceflight environment.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate across mechanical and electrical teams to reduce yield losses and cycle times while supporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing process development—photovoltaic, electronics, thin-film, or comparable precision assembly.
  • Strong ownership mentality and a track record of driving problems to closure.

Responsibilities

  • Own process development and qualification for solar panel module fabrication: cell stringing, encapsulant lay-up, lamination, and testing.
  • Lead equipment selection, installation, and commissioning for production equipment.
  • Drive value-stream mapping and takt time analysis from prototype builds to high-rate production; provide DFM input to design teams.
  • Develop PFMEA and control plans; lead root-cause investigation and corrective action.
  • Author process specifications and traveler documentation per AS9100 / spaceflight quality requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
  • Contribute to cost-reduction through yield and cycle-time improvements.
