Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Lead R&D Software Engineer for software/hardware integration at the Pickle Research Campus. You will lead the development and integration of sonar software with tactical hardware to support Navy sonar system projects in the ATL.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate cross-disciplinary work, and build automated tools to ensure reproducible results while working to meet project milestones and deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience developing or testing software in a Linux environment.
  • Ability to scope, organize, and translate high level project requirements into achievable technical tasks.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Thorough understanding of OOP concepts, data structures/design patterns/algorithm performance.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with team leads and investigators.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and apply new skills.
  • Able to work independently with sensitive information and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integration and coordination of software and hardware for high-frequency sonar systems.
  • Provide technical mentorship and supervision to junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team to meet project milestones.
  • Develop, configure and maintain automated software tools for reproducibility.
  • Troubleshoot and debug ARL sonar systems.
  • Document and present work performed.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
