Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin, Applied Research Laboratories, seeks a Naval Special Warfare Mechanical Engineering Scientist Associate at Pickle Research Campus to develop mechanical components for high frequency sonar systems. This role supports ARL:UT with hands-on design, testing, and packaging for advanced sonar technology.

You will assemble and validate hardware, create tooling, and maintain documentation while collaborating with vendors and internal teams to deliver robust mechanical

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical area.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design from concept to manufacturing.
  • Experience designing mechanical components using SolidWorks CAD tools.
  • Experience interfacing with vendors and machine shops to procure components.
  • Experience and training with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to work independently and with diverse stakeholders; manage multiple projects; maintain professionalism and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, test, produce, and validate hardware at component and system levels.
  • Design and develop mechanical packaging for high frequency sonar applications.
  • Develop structural mechanical components for electronics packaging.
  • Develop transducer and sonar assembly tooling.
  • Maintain design documentation, production procedures, and drawings.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
