Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Lead Specialist, Solution Architect to guide multiple engineering teams in modernising the OnVUE online proctored testing platform. You will translate business needs into secure, scalable architecture and drive delivery from discovery through production adoption.

You should combine deep Java and cloud-native expertise with influence without formal authority, mentoring engineers, setting direction across squads, and ensuring consistent architecture across the OnVUE footprint.

Qualifications

• Progressive experience in software engineering or solution architecture.
• Strong Java enterprise architecture experience, including Spring and Spring Boot.
• Experience across front-end and back-end with Angular.
• Cloud platform experience, Azure preferred; AWS also relevant.
• Kubernetes and container orchestration for cloud-native delivery.
• Designing scalable, reliable distributed applications and maintaining operational health.
• Proven track record leading technical decisions across multiple teams without formal authority.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Own solution architecture from discovery and design through implementation and production adoption.
• Translate business needs, constraints and technical requirements into secure, scalable and maintainable designs.
• Set technical direction across squads and maintain consistency across the wider OnVUE solution footprint.
• Guide engineering teams through implementation while preserving architectural intent.
• Evaluate trade-offs across scalability, resilience, security, maintainability, integration risk and business value.
• Resolve complex architecture, integration and build issues, escalating decisions outside the assigned scope.
• Establish repeatable technical patterns and ensure conformance with architecture standards.
• Mentor engineers and architects and communicate recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
