Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Lead Specialist, Solution Architect to guide multiple engineering teams in modernising Pearson’s OnVUE online proctored testing platform. You will translate business needs into scalable architectures and drive delivery from discovery to production.

The role combines deep Java and cloud-native expertise with the ability to influence without formal authority, mentoring engineers and maintaining architectural integrity across the OnVUE solution footprint.

Qualifications

• Progressive experience in software engineering or solution architecture.
• Strong Java enterprise architecture experience with Spring/Spring Boot.
• Experience across front-end and back-end technologies, incl. Angular.
• Cloud-platform experience, preferably Azure; AWS also relevant.
• Kubernetes, containers, orchestration and cloud-native delivery.
• Experience designing and scaling reliable, distributed apps with strong integration.
• Ability to lead technical decisions across multiple teams without formal authority.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, documentation and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Own solution architecture from discovery and design through implementation and production adoption.
• Translate business needs, constraints and technical requirements into secure, scalable designs.
• Set technical direction across squads and maintain consistency across the wider OnVUE footprint.
• Guide engineering teams through implementation while preserving architectural intent.
• Evaluate trade-offs across scalability, resilience, security, maintainability, integration risk and business value.
• Resolve complex architecture, integration and build issues, escalating decisions outside the scope.
• Establish repeatable technical patterns and ensure conformance with architecture standards.
• Mentor engineers and architects and communicate recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
