Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the Security Data Engineering Data Cataloging and Optimization team in Herndon, VA. You will guide a group of engineers building a petabyte-scale data platform that supports Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, and Parquet, delivering fast, scalable data cataloging and optimization capabilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• 8+ years of leading multi-tier web services
• 3+ years of software development experience
• 1+ years of technical leadership across SDLC
• 1+ years of distributed systems in Java/C#/C++
• 1+ years of SOA experience
• 1+ years of distributed programming experience
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Math or related field
• Knowledge of full SDLC practices and source control, build, testing, and live-site operations
• Experience partnering with product/program management teams

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software developers building the Security Data Lake cataloging and optimization platform
• Drive technical vision and roadmap for petabyte-scale data catalogs
• Oversee design/implementation of distributed data-optimization systems (compaction, re-org, indexing)
• Collaborate with data engineers and security teams across AWS and Amazon businesses
• Guide architectural decisions for latency-sensitive workloads
• Establish software engineering best practices and code quality standards
• Build systems enabling data engineers to optimize performance and security outcomes
• Manage capacity planning, sprint execution, and delivery commitments
• Conduct performance reviews and hiring activities
• Foster a culture of innovation and ownership
• Collaborate across Amazon Security and data platform teams on cross-functional initiatives
• Manage on-call and operational readiness
