Job summary

Amazon in Palo Alto, CA is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a two-pizza team building next-gen access control for the AWS Glue Data Catalog. You will own Lake Formation and drive a greenfield Glue Grant initiative, influencing design, strategy, and customer-facing outcomes.

You will partner with product, security, and adjacent teams to deliver scalable experiences, manage multi-quarter programs, and raise the bar on reliability and performance across production services.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 10+ years of designing or architecting scalable systems.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software lifecycle, including coding standards, reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and livesite operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a two-pizza team of engineers, owning their hiring, development, and performance.
• Own the Lake Formation service — ensure reliability, health, and feature evolution.
• Drive the Glue Grant surface — lead a major greenfield initiative from design through GA.
• Define and execute technical strategy for data access control and permissions in Glue Data Catalog.
• Partner cross-functionally with product, security, and adjacent service teams to deliver cohesive, scalable customer experiences.
• Drive delivery of multi-quarter programs with milestones, managing dependencies, risks, and trade-offs.
• Raise the technical bar — set standards for design, operations, and code quality; participate in reviews and architecture decisions.
• Manage operational health of production services including on-call rotations and incident response.
• Champion customers — translate ambiguous problems into engineering requirements and solutions.
