Job summary

Coupa Software Inc. seeks an experienced Lead Software Engineer to drive design and development of scalable features across the Coupa Platform. You will lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, user-centric SaaS solutions.

You will work with RoR, React, and modern web tech, and explore integrating LLM-driven workflows, accessibility, and performance optimizations across multi-tenant deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS or related field.
• 6+ years of software development building enterprise SaaS web apps using Ruby on Rails, ReactJS, SQL, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS and HTML5.
• Full stack web development with responsive UI, SPA, reusable components and UI/UX focus.
• Experience with large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI or Anthropic; generative AI agents/workflows desirable.
• WCAG accessibility, i18n best practices, cross-browser compatibility, performance optimization.
• Strong knowledge of APIs and backend integration; stay current with frontend trends and outside-in thinking.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of new architecture and major upgrades for Coupa Platform features.
• Develop deep expertise across Coupa applications to design effective frameworks.
• Follow iterative processes to deliver incremental value each release and communicate long-term technical vision.
• Advocate for architecture standards and best practices through documentation and collaboration.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Integrations, Services, Support, and Operations to co-create designs.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, designers, and developers.

The Impact of Lead Software Engineering to Coupa:

As a member of the development group, you will become part of a team that develops and maintains one of Coupa’s software products developed using Ruby and React, built as a multi-tenant SaaS solution on all Cloud Platforms like AWS, Windows Azure & GCP. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate across software products with engineers all over the company and the globe to plan and deploy product releases

What You'll Do:

• Lead the design and development of new architecture and major functional upgrades for advanced capabilities within the Coupa Platform, ensuring scalable and robust solutions.
• Develop deep expertise across the Coupa application suite to design effective application and data frameworks that enhance overall system performance.
• Follow iterative development processes to deliver incremental value each release while driving and communicating a longer-term technical vision.
• Advocate for architecture standards and best practices through clear documentation, presentations, and active collaboration with project governing bodies to gain consensus.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and cross-functional teams (Product Management, Integrations, Services, Support, Operations) to co-create feature designs and resolve customer-facing issues.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, designers, and developers, fostering a culture of high-quality software delivery and continuous improvement.

What You Will Bring to Coupa:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 6+ years of software development experience building enterpriseSaaS web applications using modern frameworks and technologies such as Ruby on Rails, ReactJS, SQL, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML5.
• Full stack web development expertise with hands‑on experience in responsive UI, Single Page Applications, reusable components, and a strong focus on UIdesign and usability.
• Familiarity with large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI or Anthropic and experience in developing generative AI agents or workflows is highly desirable.
• Experience with web accessibility standards (WCAG), internationalization (i18n) best practices, cross-browser compatibility, and performance optimization.
• Strong knowledge of APIs and backend integration, coupled with a passion for staying current with frontend trends and incorporating outside-in thinking into product development.
