Our construction equipment group is seeking a full-time Lead Shop Technician. This position reports to the Jackson, MI branch. It is a union position and is part of Local 324.

A Lead Technician can perform all Shop Technician I responsibilities with little supervision. Key duties include performing regular machinery repairs, troubleshooting, diagnosing, testing equipment, assisting in planning and scheduling jobs, providing technical advice, assigning tasks, communicating with customers, maintaining a clean and safe shop environment, and training employees.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Completing inspections
• Implementing optional accessories
• Performing general repairs
• Incorporating Alta's Guiding Principles into daily work
• Performing other duties as assigned
• Maintaining consistent and reliable attendance

Qualifications:

• Must be TCL (Volvo online training) 3 certified
• Complete manufacturer-required training in major product lines
• Previous mechanic repair experience
• Excellent mechanical aptitude
• Good communication skills
• Effective time management
• Ability to work after hours as needed
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Strong understanding of engine, power train, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Own tools
• Positive attitude and high energy
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Volvo VCADS
• Intermediate reading, writing, and speaking skills in English
• Basic math skills and intermediate reasoning ability

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Standing, walking, using hands, reaching, talking, hearing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting
• Lifting up to 25 pounds regularly, 26-50 pounds frequently, over 51 pounds occasionally
• Work near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes, outdoor weather, wet/humid conditions, electrical hazards, vibration
