Job description

Join to apply for the Lead Shop Technician role at Alta Equipment Company.

Our construction equipment group is seeking a full-time Lead Shop Technician in Jackson, MI. This union position is part of Local 324.

Responsibilities

1. Perform regular repairs, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and testing equipment.
2. Assist in planning, scheduling, and assigning jobs.
3. Provide technical advice and ensure a clean, safe shop environment.
4. Train employees and perform inspections and general repairs.
5. Implement Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities.
6. Maintain reliable attendance and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Certified TCL (Volvo online training) Level 3.
• Complete manufacturer required training in major product lines.
• Previous mechanic repair experience with excellent mechanical aptitude.
• Good communication, time management skills, and ability to work after hours if needed.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and own tools.
• Understanding of engine, power train, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Volvo VCADS.
• Intermediate reading, writing, and speaking skills; basic math skills; intermediate reasoning ability.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Regularly stand, walk, use hands; occasionally climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.
• Lift up to 25 pounds regularly, 26-50 pounds frequently, and over 50 pounds occasionally.
• Work near moving mechanical parts, in outdoor weather, and in humid or wet conditions.
