Job summary

Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. is seeking a Kitchen Supervisor to plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals for residents at the Good Shepherd Center Interim Housing sites.

You will ensure food safety, manage inventories, and lead kitchen volunteers in daily operations. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 1–3 years in food preparation, and a valid Food Service Manager Certification or eligibility to obtain it.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Formal culinary training or food service certification preferred.
• Minimum 1–3 years of experience in food preparation.
• Valid Food Service Manager Certificate required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
• Handle public contact and relations effectively.
• Supervisory experience with volunteers preferred.
• Understanding trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and cultural humility in service provision is desirable.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Meal preparation and planning for shelter residents, including breakfast and lunch.
• Develop weekly menus that are nutritious, varied, and culturally sensitive.
• Order, receive, and store food and kitchen supplies with inventory control.
• Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment in compliance with health regulations.
• Supervise and train kitchen volunteers and interns.
• Collaborate with Case Managers to address residents' dietary needs.
