Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated is seeking a highly experienced Principal Scientist to join the Vertex Manufacturing Center (VMC) Kilo Lab in a dual-capability role central to drug substance development. You will lead preparative chromatography, scale-up, and kilo-lab operations, with cGMP standards across both R&D and manufacturing environments.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on industry experience in R&D and cGMP pharmaceutical analytical and preparative separations.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparative chromatography method development and scale-up from semi-preparative to kilogram scale.
• Execute complex purification campaigns and troubleshoot challenging separations.
• Establish and maintain large-scale chromatography infrastructure and SOPs.
• Perform kilo-lab scale synthesis including jacketed reactors and large-scale workups.
• Mentor staff and author GMP documentation (SOPs, batch records, deviations).
• Lead cross-functional initiatives with Analytical Development, Process Chemistry, and Quality.
