Job summary

The Putney School in Putney, Vermont seeks a full-time Head Librarian to envision and lead a dynamic school library program for the 2026–27 year. You’ll partner with faculty to design research-informed learning, foster digital fluency, and cultivate a culture of reading for curiosity and critical thinking.

With a Master’s in Library Science and strong library leadership experience, you’ll manage collections, budgets, and emerging literacies (including AI), while supporting students and staff

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science with focus on School Library and Media Centers.
• Experience in library management; school library experience preferred.
• Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
• Knowledge of library management systems and digital resources.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop innovative programs and community partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with faculty to design research, information literacy, and inquiry-based learning.
• Provide instruction in research skills, database use, source evaluation, and ethical use of information.
• Curate and manage a diverse, inclusive, curriculum-aligned collection.
• Provide leadership around emerging literacies (digital media and AI).
• Oversee circulation, cataloging, inventory, and library systems; manage special collections.
• Supervise evening library staff.
• Administer the library budget and engage in long-term program planning.
• Participate in broader school life including student advising and committees.
