Job summary

Union College in Schenectady, NY, seeks a College Librarian and Director of Schaffer Library to provide strategic direction and lead a team of professional librarians and staff. The Director will align library initiatives with the college’s strategic plan and foster innovation in teaching, research, and the use of AI tools.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
• 5–7 years of progressive administrative and leadership experience in an academic library setting.
• Demonstrated track record of innovation, including integration of emerging library technologies, e-resources, and scholarly publishing.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable working and learning community.

Responsibilities

• Define, articulate, and advocate for a compelling vision for Schaffer Library aligned with Union’s next strategic plan.
• Lead long-range planning and operational strategies, staying abreast of trends and innovations across small liberal arts college environments.
• Formulate, implement, and oversee the library budget.
• Promote the professional growth of library faculty and oversee promotion applications and leaves.
• Cultivate a user-focused, collaborative work environment and promote DEI in hiring, staffing, and services.
• Oversee core library functions to meet teaching and research needs and preserve library collections.
