Job summary

Iberville Parish School Board is seeking a Head Custodian to lead custodial staff at East Iberville Elementary & High School. The role ensures a clean, safe, and healthy school environment through scheduling, supervision, and hands-on cleaning duties.

Responsibilities include opening/closing buildings, equipment maintenance, payroll-related timekeeping, and supporting emergency procedures. The position requires a strong work ethic and teamwork within the school system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
• Ability to lead and supervise a group of people in completing custodial tasks as a team.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently.
• Physical and mental stamina and ability to perform job functions, tasks and duties.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Custodians and Housekeepers and personally takes the lead in custodial duties such as sweeping, scrubbing and other related cleaning tasks.
• Prepares work schedule for the efficient operation of the entire school campus.
• Opens and closes buildings as needed.
• Checks heating plant and areas related to heating plant for efficient operation.
• Checks building for cleanliness, determines if custodians and housekeepers properly performed the work assigned.
• Sweeps all outside entrances.
• Picks up paper and trash.
• Runs scrubbing machine and strips and refinishes floors.
• Secures and cleans garbage cans.
• Assists drivers in unloading or loading trucks.
• Performs minor building and equipment repairs and touch-ups.
• Returns all equipment to supervisor for repair as instructed.
• Is on call 24 hours per day for break-in or other troubles.
• Washes windows.
• Moves all furniture.
• Closely supervises use of custodial supplies and materials.
• Keeps time records and makes payroll reports.
• Performs any custodial duty required to maintain satisfactory operation of the school.
• Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance.
• Assists co-workers in task completion and orients new staff.
• Performs any additional duties assigned by superintendent/evaluator.
