Job summary

Taher, Inc. is seeking a Head Cook to lead our school and corporate dining teams, ensuring meals are prepared to standard recipes with quality and efficiency. The role requires guiding a small staff, monitoring equipment, and maintaining HACCP and USDA compliance while controlling costs.

The position offers opportunities for training, development, and advancement in a family-owned food service company dedicated to fresh-from-scratch meals and community nutrition education.

Qualifications

• 2 years previous experience in a school food service setting preferred.
• Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Able to follow supervisors direction and lead a small team.
• Strong communication skills with employees and client.
• Able to follow spoken and written directions.
• Ability to prioritize, plan and use time efficiently.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information.
• Criminal background check required.

Responsibilities

• Cooks and prepares a variety of food through standardized recipes.
• Ensures meals meet quality standards, are correctly prepared and within time limits.
• Directs food service staff and substitutes in preparation, setup, and serving.
• Prepares and cooks all menu items for regular and a la carte lines.
• Leads a small staff with clear direction and training.
• Monitors equipment and temperatures of refrigeration and freezer units.
• Manages ordering, receiving, storing and inventory of perishables per HACCP standards.
• Reinforces USDA regulations and cost control of products and menus.
• Aims for waste reduction and budget performance management.
• Sets monthly goals for food and labor costs and supports nutrition education in community.
