Job summary

Taher, Inc. is growing and seeking a Head Cook to lead kitchen operations in a school meal program. You will cook from standardized recipes, supervise staff, manage inventory and costs, and ensure compliance with HACCP and USDA standards.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in school food service preferred.
• Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Follow supervisor directions and lead a small team.
• Strong communication with employees and client.
• Follow spoken and written directions.
• Prioritize, plan and use time efficiently.
• Lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods.
• Maintain confidentiality of student, staff, and/or parent information.
• ServSafe certification preferred.
• Criminal background check required.

Responsibilities

• Cooks and prepares a variety of food through standardized recipes.
• Ensure meals meet quality standards and are prepared on time.
• Direct food service staff and substitutes in prep, setup, serving.
• Prepare menu items for regular and a la carte lines.
• Lead a small staff with clear direction and training.
• Check equipment and monitor temperatures of refrigeration and freezer units.
• Utilize leftovers per standards to reduce waste.
• Manage ordering, receiving, storing and inventory of perishables per HACCP.
• Conduct cost control analysis and monitor product and menu costs.
• Control waste and manage cost and budget performance.
• Establish monthly food and labor cost goals.
• Promote nutrition education in school and community.
• Use time management to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Perform other duties as requested by leadership.
