Job summary

SR2 | Socially Responsible Recruitment | Certified B Corporation™ is seeking a Senior Systems Integrator to lead design, integration, testing and commissioning of electrical control and automation systems for critical power and renewable energy projects in North America.

Responsibilities include PLC/HMI/SCADA development, substation integration, protocol work (Modbus TCP, DNP3), on-site commissioning, and mentoring junior engineers while collaborating with clients and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Advanced experience in electrical control systems, automation and systems integration.
  • Strong PLC programming and HMI design, development and commissioning experience.
  • Experience with multiple PLC/automation platforms such as SEL RTAC, Schneider Electric, and Allen-Bradley.
  • Advanced experience with Inductive Automation Ignition and industrial protocols like Modbus TCP and DNP3.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and protection drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and commission PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems for renewable energy applications.
  • Lead integration of substation systems including protective relays and RTACs.
  • Review electrical schematics and drawings; lead on-site commissioning and testing.
  • Configure networks and fibre-optic links; develop control schemes for generation control.
  • Translate PPA/GIA/ISO requirements into control strategies; program PLCs in Ladder, SBD, ST.
  • Create Ignition HMI applications; work with Modbus TCP and DNP3 protocols.
  • Mentor junior engineers; manage multidisciplinary projects with stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with industry, cybersecurity, and safety standards including NERC CIP.

Job description

SR2 is partnering with an exciting engineering consultancy delivering critical power and renewable energy infrastructure across North America. We are looking for a Senior Systems Integrator to lead the design, integration, testing and commissioning of complex electrical control and automation systems.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design, develop and commission PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems for renewable energy applications
  • Integrate complex substation systems, including protective relays, SEL RTACs, communication networks and control devices
  • Review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams and protection and control drawings
  • Lead system testing, troubleshooting, device power-up and on-site commissioning activities
  • Design and troubleshoot fibre-optic and industrial communication networks
  • Develop control schemes for automatic voltage regulation, power factor, voltage and generation control
  • Translate Power Purchase Agreements, LGIAs and ISO requirements into effective control strategies
  • Programme PLC systems using Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram and Structured Text
  • Configure and commission HMI applications using Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform
  • Work with protocols including Modbus TCP and DNP3
  • Lead complex, multidisciplinary technical projects while maintaining schedules and quality standards
  • Mentor junior engineers and help colleagues develop their technical and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, clients, vendors and external stakeholders
  • Support compliance with relevant industry, cybersecurity and safety standards, including NERC CIP

What we’re looking for

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
  • Advanced experience in electrical control systems, automation and systems integration
  • Strong PLC programming and HMI design, development and commissioning experience
  • Experience with multiple PLC or automation platforms, such as: SEL RTAC, Schneider Electric, Allen-Bradley etc
  • Advanced experience with Inductive Automation Ignition
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Modbus TCP and DNP3
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting protective relays, RTACs and substation automation systems
  • Advanced understanding of three-phase generation control and automatic voltage regulation
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and protection and control drawings
  • Strong experience designing or troubleshooting fibre-optic networks
  • Excellent analytical, fault-finding and technical leadership skills
  • A proven ability to mentor and support other engineers
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25-35%
  • A valid driving licence
  • Permanent authorisation to work in the United States
  • SCADA systems and related technologies

  • Renewable generation, utility-scale power or substation automation
  • ISO-specific voltage regulation requirements
