Job summary

Maitsys is seeking an experienced Lead SCADA Engineer to lead the design, development, implementation, and support of SCADA systems for industrial automation and utility projects in the Reno area. The role requires strong expertise in SCADA platforms, PLC integration, industrial networking, and leadership across the project lifecycle.

You will design and deploy SCADA solutions, develop HMIs, alarms, trends, and reports, and ensure robust cybersecurity practices while mentoring junior engineers

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in SCADA system engineering and industrial automation.
  • 3+ years of experience leading SCADA implementation projects or engineering teams.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Ignition, GE iFIX/CIMPLICITY, FactoryTalk View SE.
  • Experience integrating PLCs including Siemens and Emerson.
  • Knowledge of Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA/DA, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101/104, Ethernet/IP, Profinet.
  • Experience with industrial networking, virtualization, and Windows Server environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, configuration, development, and deployment of SCADA systems for industrial and utility environments.
  • Develop HMI screens, alarms, trends, reports, and historical data collection.
  • Integrate SCADA systems with PLCs, RTUs, DCS, and third‑party devices using industrial communication protocols.
  • Design and implement control system architectures, including servers, networking, and redundancy.
  • Perform system testing, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup support.
  • Troubleshoot SCADA, PLC, communication, and network‑related issues.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including electrical, instrumentation, operations, and IT.
  • Develop technical documentation including functional specifications, design documents, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership during project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards, industry regulations, and company engineering practices.
  • Support system upgrades, migrations, and ongoing maintenance activities.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Lead SCADA Engineer to lead the design, development, implementation, and support of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for industrial automation and utility projects. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in SCADA platforms, PLC integration, industrial networking, and control systems while providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, configuration, development, and deployment of SCADA systems for industrial and utility environments.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in SCADA system engineering and industrial automation.
  • 3+ years of experience leading SCADA implementation projects or engineering teams.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with one or more SCADA platforms:

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in utilities, power generation, renewable energy, manufacturing, mining, or water/wastewater industries.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Cybersecurity (ISA/IEC 62443, NERC CIP).
  • Experience with SQL Server, Historian databases, and reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or VBScript.
  • Experience with cloud‑based SCADA or IIoT solutions is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant automation certifications are preferred.
