Job description

THIS ROLE IS CONTRACT TO HIRE - CONVERTING AFTER 3-6 MONTHS

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Director – Solution Design to serve as the lead solution architect for our large-scale SAP finance transformation programs. This role is responsible for the end-to-end design of the Record-to-Report solution, translating Finance needs into a coherent, scalable, and controlled architecture across the General Ledger, consolidation, allocations, reporting, intercompany, and banking and treasury. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on architect and strategic leader with deep RTR process and SAP expertise, strong executive presence, and experience driving design decisions across global enterprises.

Because this role sits at the intersection of finance and technology, we are looking for someone who understands not only how SAP is configured, but how Finance consumes it: the close, the subledgers, management and external reporting, cash and liquidity, and the controls that stand behind the numbers. Deep RTR expertise is the defining requirement for this role. Experience in an insurance or health care finance organization will set a candidate apart, and experience supporting M&A-driven finance transformations is a strong plus. Big 4 consulting experience is also a plus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end RTR solution architecture and design authority for the program, ensuring a single, integrated design across workstreams.
  • Own the SAP finance target architecture and roadmap (S/4HANA, General Ledger, subledgers, consolidation, treasury) and ensure it is designed around the needs of Finance reporting.
  • Lead design workshops with Finance, IT, and the system integrator; drive design decisions, resolve conflicts, and secure sign‑off from business owners.
  • Define design principles, standards, and governance, including a global template, fit-to-standard approach, and a disciplined process for managing deviations and enhancements.
  • Evaluate options and trade‑offs (standard SAP, extensions, and third‑party or enterprise platforms), and present clear recommendations to senior leaders.
  • General Ledger: Design the chart of accounts, ledger and company code structures, currencies, parallel accounting, journal entry processing, and period‑end close processes.
  • Consolidation: Design the consolidation solution (e.g., SAP Group Reporting), including group structures, eliminations, currency translation, and legal and management consolidation.
  • Allocations: Design cost and revenue allocation methods, including cycles, drivers, and the integration with FP&A and management reporting.
  • Reporting: Design the reporting architecture across financial, management, and regulatory reporting, using SAP and enterprise analytics platforms (e.g., SAP Analytics Cloud), with clear traceability from source transaction to reported result.
  • Intercompany: Design intercompany processes for transactions, matching, reconciliation, and elimination, and support a faster, more reliable close.
  • Banking & Treasury: Design banking and treasury capabilities, including bank account management, bank connectivity and statements, payments, cash management and forecasting, in‑house banking, and treasury and risk management.
Integration, Data & Controls
  • Design the integration of RTR with Order-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, Financial Planning & Analysis, and upstream and downstream systems, including subledger and source system integration.
  • Define the finance data model, master data governance, and reconciliation standards so that reported numbers are consistent, auditable, and trusted across the enterprise.
  • Partner with the Controls Lead and Internal Audit to build controls, security, and segregation of duties into the design.
  • Partner with the data migration and cutover teams to ensure the design supports conversion, testing, and a clean transition to go‑live.
Program & Execution Management
  • Oversee solution design activities across complex, multi-workstream finance transformation programs, ensuring delivery on scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Proactively identify design risks, dependencies, and issues; develop mitigation plans and guide decision-making at the executive level.
  • Manage system integrator and vendor partners on design deliverables, holding them accountable for quality, cost, and delivery commitments.
Stakeholder & Executive Engagement
  • Partner closely with Controllership, Financial Reporting, FP&A, Treasury, IT, and external partners to align transformation priorities and design.
  • Present solution strategy, design decisions, and status to senior leaders and executive committees.
  • Influence decision-making by presenting clear options, trade-offs, and recommendations.
Change Management & Capability Building
  • Support organizational change initiatives, including communication, training, and adoption planning for the new design.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of solution architects and functional leads; foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Work independently and present solutions to stakeholders and leaders to support data-driven decision making.
M&A Integration
  • Support the finance design aspects of M&A activity, including due diligence, integration planning, and post-merger finance transformation.
  • Lead harmonization of finance processes, systems, and reporting for acquired entities onto the enterprise platform.
Required Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in Finance, Finance Transformation, or large-scale business transformation initiatives.
  • 5–7 years in a leadership role, managing senior teams and complex programs.
  • Experience as a lead solution architect or design lead on at least 3+ ERP-enabled finance transformations (e.g., SAP S/4HANA or comparable platforms), with hands-on SAP finance depth (FI/CO, General Ledger, Group Reporting/consolidation).
  • Deep expertise in the Record-to-Report process, including General Ledger, consolidation, allocations, reporting, intercompany, and banking and treasury.
  • Working knowledge of SAP treasury and cash management capabilities (e.g., Bank Account Management, Cash Management, In‑House Cash, Treasury and Risk Management) and bank integration.
  • Strong knowledge of finance processes, controls, and performance management, including how financial results are produced, reconciled, and reported.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Finance reporting needs (month-end close, management reporting, external and regulatory reporting) and the ability to translate them into system and data requirements.
  • Proven experience leading enterprise-wide transformation programs with cross-functional impact.
  • Travel of less than 5% expected.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Big 4 consulting, advisory, or professional services experience.
  • Experience in an insurance, health plan, or other financial services environment, including working knowledge of insurance and health care accounting and reporting (e.g., U.S. GAAP, statutory reporting).
  • Prior experience working for or on projects in a large, complex environment.
  • M&A integration or carve‑out experience supporting finance organizations.
  • Familiarity with advanced finance technologies, data analytics, automation tools, and AI/ML capabilities.
  • Proficiency in cloud architecture and solution design is highly preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • MBA or relevant professional certification (CPA, CMA, PMP) preferred.
