Job summary

The City of Montgomery, AL is seeking a Sanitation Truck Driver to operate garbage packers and sanitation vehicles and to lead a small crew for daily routes in the Sanitation Department. The role requires a Class B CDL in Alabama, a history of safe driving, and willingness to handle emergency overtime, nights, and weekend shifts.

As the lead worker, you will set the pace, ensure safety, communicate with customers, and perform required vehicle inspections and basic maintenance.

Qualifications

• Experience operating equipment such as garbage packers, sanitation vehicles, buses, tractor-trailers, and similar vehicles.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Commercial Driver’s License Class B or higher.
• Must be willing to work overtime, nights, and weekends for emergencies and special events.

Responsibilities

• Operate sanitation vehicles and lead a crew of a driver and two service maintenance workers.
• Set the pace of work and ensure crew and public safety on routes.
• Perform preventative maintenance checks and communicate with customers and the public.
• Complete assigned routes in a timely manner under limited supervision.
