Major work responsibilities may include: operating sanitation vehicles; serving as the lead worker for work crew; performing preventative maintenance checks; communicating with customers and the public; and assisting in the performance of manual labor. Although routes are assigned by supervisors, Sanitation Truck Drivers are responsible for ensuring the assigned route is completed in a timely manner. Work is performed with limited immediate supervision and requires drivers to exercise independent judgement while on routes. Supervision is received from the Refuse Collection Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months of experience operating equipment such as garbage packers, sanitation vehicles, buses, tractor trailers, and other vehicles requiring a Class B CDL or higher. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Commercial Driver’s License Class B or higher. NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must work overtime, nights, and weekends for emergencies and special events. Must possess and maintain an insurable driving record.
