Job summary

Fivetran is seeking a hands-on Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Core team behind dbt V2, the next-generation engine. You will guide a ~8-person unit, shape a cross-functional roadmap, and partner with Product to convert ambiguous requirements into actionable plans.

The role focuses on the Rust-based engine powering dbt Fusion, with responsibilities spanning engine, orchestration, IDE experiences, adapters, warehouses, and LakeCompute.

Qualifications

• Lead, coach, and develop a fluid team of engineers and guide cross-functional stakeholders.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into credible engineering scope, milestones and estimates.
• Balance feature work with engine maintenance and product stability in a GA product.
• Design end-to-end solutions across engine, orchestration, IDE, adapters, warehouses, and LakeCompute.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a fluid team of approximately 8 engineers working on a critical part of the dbt product.
• Establish clarity across a technically demanding roadmap with multiple product and engineering stakeholders.
• Partner with Product to translate requirements into realistic engineering scope, sequencing, and estimates.
• Guide end-to-end technical design across engine and integration points with orchestration, IDE, adapters, warehouses, and LakeCompute.
• Support engineers in making tradeoffs between product value, quality, performance, and delivery risk.
• Contribute to technical design and implementation alongside the team.
• Coordinate initiatives spanning multiple teams and systems with peer engineering leaders.
• Build an environment where engineers can grow and own meaningful technical problems.
• Shape the next phase of dbt Fusion as a language-aware transformation engine for the data community.
