Position Overview
We are seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide quality care for clinically complex pediatric residents in a home-like atmosphere. The Respiratory Therapist assists with ensuring the health and well-being of our individuals by evaluating their ventilator weaning and/or respiratory rehabilitation potential.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Screens and provides an in-depth evaluation of the needs of ventilator and respiratory clients. Consults with the attending physician and pulmonologist regarding treatment protocol. Provides written recommendations for interdisciplinary care planning and treatment.
- Informs residents or qualified representatives about care and treatment plans and possible outcomes, including the implications of refusing participation in respiratory therapy.
- Develops a treatment plan and initiates ventilator weaning protocol and/or respiratory therapy as per physician’s orders; maintains required contact with the physician.
- Maintains documentation including evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries according to policies.
- Participates in interdisciplinary care team meetings, providing input and completing required documentation. Records residents’ plans of care accordingly.
- Conducts monthly mock codes with facility educator.
- Maintains a valid CPR instructor card.
- Trains and orientates Respiratory Therapists and students, overseeing educational programs.
- Trains other direct care staff and oversees the work of staff Respiratory Therapists, including scheduling and performance evaluation in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
- Develops and conducts in-service training and quality assurance monitoring.
- Oversees respiratory in-service training for families of residents.
- Participates in departmental and inter-departmental meetings, including safety and quality assurance committees.
- Collaborates with supply and policy departments to ensure compliance and proper equipment management.
- Reviews and updates departmental policies annually.
- Serves as respiratory expert on policy and procedure committees and ensures regulatory compliance.
- Assists with referrals and admissions as needed.
- Adheres to work schedule, dress code, and safety protocols.
- Participates in meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Supports the organization’s mission, vision, values, and code of conduct.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited institution; Bachelor’s preferred.
- Active, unencumbered state Respiratory Therapist license; Registered Respiratory Therapist certification.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in respiratory therapy; pediatric experience preferred.
- Valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Interest in respiratory treatment programs for chronic ventilator, weaning, and rehabilitation populations.
- Genuine concern, dependability, patience, and compassion for pediatric and chronically ill residents.
- Ability to work respectfully with residents, families, and staff.
- High standards of cleanliness and professionalism.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at an intermediate or higher level.
