Purpose:

In addition to performing duties of a Sr Respiratory Therapist, RRT, and under indirect supervision, coordinates diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to meet patient, physician, department, and hospital needs during the shift. Responsibilities span all patient populations and service areas.

Responsibilities:
  1. Complete 2 approved projects from the department's Project List during each annual review period.
  2. Coordinate scheduling, direct shift assignments, resolve issues, complete records, and ensure policy adherence. May function as a Supervisor as needed.
  3. Coach new Respiratory Therapists and students during orientation and training.
  4. Assist in staff and student evaluations.
  5. Participate in quality improvement activities, special projects, and clinical research planning and implementation.
  6. Perform duties of a Sr. Respiratory Therapist, including:
  • Reading prescriptions, measuring arterial blood gases, and reviewing patient info to assess needs.
  • Selecting appropriate treatment methods and medications.
  • Setting up and operating respiratory devices.
  • Monitoring therapy parameters and adjusting equipment accordingly.
  • Ensuring equipment safety and efficiency.
  • Monitoring patient responses and assisting with breathing exercises.
  • Performing pulmonary function tests.
  • Consulting with physicians on adverse reactions.
  • Maintaining patient charts.
  • Ordering repairs and demonstrating procedures to trainees.
  • Transporting ventilated patients and responding to code situations.
