Job summary

Argus Community, Inc. is seeking a Full-Time Professional to serve as Primary Counselor - Residential in New York, NY. The role provides counseling and abuse intervention services within a drug- and violence-free Residential Treatment Program, under OASAS guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must have minimum of two years’ experience working with substance abusers; through Knowledge of Residential Treatment Programs.
• Must have working knowledge of the regulations that govern Residential Treatment Programs.
• Must be able to relate effectively to contract managers, evaluators, regulatory and other agencies.
• Must be computer literate and have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be capable of handling routine and crisis situations using good judgment and direction.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates therapeutic groups as assigned and documents results in group notes and progress notes.
• Ensures weekly urine samples are taken for residents for the first 90 days and random urine sampling two times per month for others; ensures toxicology results are filed.
• Monitors and encourages resident participation in daily meetings.
• Facilitates daily meetings to address treatment concerns and issues.
• Facilitates or attends general meetings to address treatment concerns and issues.
• Facilitates abuse intervention in concert with the treatment team around crisis or special situations.
• Conducts individual counseling sessions weekly with each resident on caseload and documents results.
• Ensures reportable incidents are documented and reviewed by Program Director for possible submission to authorities.
• Monitors residents’ ADL skills development and addresses in groups and individually.
• Facilitates seminars, as assigned by Program Director/Coordinator.
• Observes residents daily and provides feedback to the treatment team; records in daily log.
• Participates in daily feedback and staff development meetings and training sessions.
• Attends treatment plan meetings weekly led by Program Director/Coordinator.
• Collaborates with treatment team to identify health and legal problems and communicates to team.
• Maintains documentation of staff supervision for monthly review by Program Director.
• Meets regularly with the treatment team to ensure accuracy of treatment plans and notes.
