Job summary

RS&H is seeking an Experienced Resident Engineer to join our Transportation-Construction Management (T-CM) team in the Chicago, IL area.

This position will work outside on active construction sites, serving as an owner's representative, leading Phase III construction engineering, inspection and contract administration on large-scale transportation projects for clients such as IDOT, the Illinois Tollway and regional transit agencies.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years of relevant transportation construction experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Resident Engineer or Phase III experience on IDOT and/or Illinois Tollway projects.
• Experience with construction of major roads or bridge structures.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate on highways and job sites.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Resident Engineer and owner's representative for inspection and contract administration on large-scale transportation projects.
• Manage consultant contracts, including accounts receivable, subconsultant management and client interface.
• Direct Phase III construction engineering administration and inspection programs.
• Review and draft project correspondence, claims, change orders and time extension requests.
• Verify construction activities for compliance with contract documents, plans and specifications.
• Plan and organize the work of others, including inspection staff, documentation staff and subconsultants.
• Oversee documentation of contract quantities, progress pay estimates and final estimates.
• Coordinate with utility companies, local agencies, client representatives and contractors to keep projects on schedule.
• Participate in the marketing and development of new opportunities and contract pursuits.
• Develop or review policies, methods, practices and procedures.
