Job summary

Juneau Associates, Inc. seeks a Resident Engineer in Chicago to lead construction oversight on roadway and bridge projects. You will ensure contractor compliance with IDOT, Tollway, and Higher Education policies, and supervise field staff across multiple disciplines.

The role requires reading complex plans, maintaining records, and coordinating with owners and contractors to meet project specs and LEED requirements.

Qualifications

• BS in civil engineering or similar.
• 5 years’ experience working on IDOT, Illinois Higher Education Facilities, and Illinois Tollway construction projects.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Strong PC skills, including CAD platforms, web-based software, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to read and interpret contract documents and construction plans.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience interacting directly with clients.

Responsibilities

• Manages construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with IDOT, Tollway, and Higher Education policies.
• Familiar with project specifications, plans, and proposals for roadway, bridge, vertical construction, drainage, and pavement work.
• Supervises field staff and manages contractors.
• Verifies quality construction per plans and specs.
• Ensures LEED requirements are met.

• Prepares change orders and pay requests.
• Notifies stakeholders of non-conforming work when necessary.

Job description

Job Responsibilities: Typical duties of the Resident Engineer include, but are not limited to, managing construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Tollway, and Illinois Higher Education policies and procedures.More particularly, the candidate shall be familiar with project specifications, plans, and/or proposals for roadway and bridge work, vertical construction, drainage facilities, roadway, pavement, etc.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Supervises field staff and manages contractors
• Ability to understand plans, specifications, and construction techniques
• Verifying quality construction in accordance with the plans and specifications
• Ensuring projects are constructed according to applicable LEED requirements
• Preparing and maintaining project records and reports
• Documentation/Approval of construction materials that will be incorporated into the project based upon the requirements of the Owner
• Preparing change orders and pay requests
• Notifying the Contractor, Construction Manager, or Owner of non-conforming work when necessary

Requirements:

• BS in civil engineering or similar
