Job summary

University of Michigan is seeking a Research Lab Technician (Senior/Lead) for the Kaczorowski Lab to study mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease using transgenic mouse models. The role offers hands-on training and opportunities for skill development in a collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate will manage animal handling, behaviors, and tissue collection, while contributing to record-keeping, data presentation, and integration with ongoing studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required and 2-4 years of experience in a related field.
• 2+ years of direct experience with in vivo mouse handling in a research setting including handling, behavior, and tissue collection
• Bachelor's degree required and 4+ years of experience in a related field
• 3+ years of direct experience with in vivo mouse handling in a research setting including handling, behavior, and tissue collection

Responsibilities

• Help maintain lab organization and record all information, daily, in an official laboratory notebook.
• Assist with experiments that involve mouse handling and animal behavior assays.
• Support the maintenance and organization of mouse colonies, including involvement in genotyping and genetic crosses.
• Aid in mouse tissue dissection and preparation for downstream applications.
• Demonstrate proficiency with laboratory protocols, equipment operation, and standard techniques, or show aptitude to learn these quickly.
• Participate and present data in periodic research discussions.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and achieve short- and long-range plans.
• Monitor laboratory instrumentation, ensuring proper functioning and performing routine maintenance as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, according to research or lab needs.
