Summary
This position is located on NAVAL STATION NORFOLK, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Community Programs. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of duties in support of the recreation and/or internet facilities, serving as "duty manager" as assigned in the liberty programs.
Responsibilities
- Serve as duty manager to ensure the facility functions smoothly, safely, and effectively. Act as point of contact for subordinate staff, ensure tasks are completed, and resolve minor issues and complaints.
- Check work schedules upon arrival, monitor on-call personnel, ensure the facility is open/closed on time, and review event schedules to prepare the facility accordingly.
- Manage cash receipts, control cash funds, and complete daily cash reports, ensuring accuracy and security.
- Maintain order among patrons, address disorderly behavior tactfully, and remove disruptive patrons if necessary.
- Perform security checks, secure premises, and report emergencies or safety hazards.
- Assist in administering recreation and internet programs, greet patrons, operate cash registers, and maintain facility operations.
- Register new users, troubleshoot minor system issues, and refer complex problems to contractors.
- Promote programs and events, assist with promotions, and visit areas to encourage participation.
- Ensure security protocols are followed, including key control and monitoring for tobacco and alcohol restrictions.
- Perform housekeeping, minor repairs, and report maintenance issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including covering other facilities or assisting with special events.
Requirements
- Must pass all applicable background and records checks.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Starting May 7, 2025, a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or acceptable ID is required for access to CNRMA installations.
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate experience and skills related to the role, including:
- Familiarity with computer software (internet, email, games, word processing), and equipment related to recreation facilities.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Basic arithmetic skills for inventory, charges, and reports.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to manage staff and patrons effectively.
- At least two years of relevant work experience preferred.
